In 1876, Ringnes & Co brewery was founded by the brothers Amund and Ellef Ringnes, and Axel Heiberg. The brothers were very diligent with a scientific curiosity and a good understanding of the importance of new technologies and the employees well and woe.
Ringnes & Co brewery was among the first in Norway to use the telephone as a sales medium, have electric lights at the brewery, own factory doctor and laboratory. The employees received both food and drink at work during the long work shifts. In 1903 Ringnes Vørterøl was launched as a strength drink for active people, athletes, pregnant women and children.
Today Ringnes Root Beer carries Olympic rings, but it was originally Frydenlund who owned the rights to the Olympic rings in Norway. At the Olympics in Oslo in 1952, the Olympic Committee had to hire the rights to use the OL rings. In 1972, when the Olympics were to be held in Sapporo, the rings were sold to the Olympic Committee for one penny towards that root beer got to carry the Olympic rings. The spring beer is brewed with malt and hops and added carbonic acid before tapping. Taste Ringnes Vørterøl has a dark noble brown color. The aroma is strongly characterized by malt, wort cake, bread and other grain baking. The beer has a large malting nut that is balanced against fresh carbonic acid and a slightly hopsite bitterness. Food Ringnes Vørterøl is well suited as a refreshment drink, strength drink in an active everyday life or as a drink while hiking.
